Statement of Need: This activity was developed in 2007 in response to the needs of Plastic Surgeons and of other doctors interested in plastic and cosmetic surgery to keep abreast of advances and new developments in plastic surgery. Dr. Donald Deye, Medical Director, Oakstone Medical Publishing, and other practitioners surveyed the opinions of colleagues and practitioners and agreed on the following: (1) Plastic surgeons must maintain skills and competency; (2) The medical journals are a fertile source of new information, but are also too diverse and voluminous to be effectively used by most busy clinicians; (3) Plastic surgeons need a timesaving way to more effectively use the peer-reviewed reports that appear in the journals; (4) The use of this audio is a practical source of medical education.

Intended Audience: Plastic surgeons and others interested in plastic surgery and other cosmetic surgery procedures.

Learning Objectives: This activity is designed to provide the participant with a regular monthly overview and critical analysis of the most current, clinically useful information available in the monthly journal literature covering strategies and advances in plastic surgery and other cosmetic surgery procedures.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize evidence of the safety and efficacy of such approaches.
  • Discuss controversies, advantages and disadvantages of various modalities of procedures in plastic surgery.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the latest basic science findings and the impact of these on clinical problems.
  • Integrate non-conventional principles and practices with conventional ones and select and employ the best of all available approaches.
